Tears Shall Not Cry

Tears Shall Not Cry

Into the mighty ears of the earth,
Let the messenger speak.

Into the echoes of a wounded and bleeding world
Let the messenger speak

To one and all that a castle of love and kindness has gone to the land of our ancestors

He traversed many a foreign land
On behalf of the homeland
To raise his imperial voice

So that the damned and the accused will be heard.
So that those who beseech hope will see the light from a rising continent

Those who could not touch his garment walked in the long shadow he cast from the sand storms of the Sahara to misty mountains of South Africa

Tears shall not cry
For you oh wayfarer from the middle belt of the good and great land

Look behind and see why.
See the chariots
of men
of women
of youths
Celebrating your life around the world with songs and dances

A global goodbye of songs and dances in honour of Prof. Illustration by Newspackng

Tarry a little
To receive your gifts of
Dates, Pomegranates, Grapes, Diamonds, Gold and Sapphire

Tarry a little
Let the Pharaohs find you a resting home in the grandeur of the Egyptian pyramids.

Tears shall not cry
For a luminary that left the horn of Africa in company of a thousand stars

Ethiopia!
You land of the unconquered
You offered a place to a great son of the ebony continent

To negotiate a pious testament between the past and the future of its beloved children

You sent away a great man in a blaze,
No, not of fire
But of fiery glory and honor.

Tears shall not cry
No, Not this time,
No, Not another time,
No, Not for ever

A tribute to Professor Adebola Adesanmi who died in a plane crash in Ethiopia on March 10, 2019. This tribute was also my entry for the worldwide Wayfarer’s Anthology in honur of the Prof.
